Why the UK Price Is What It Is
The UK does not maintain a state ‘sworn translator’ register the way France (‘traducteur assermenté’), Spain (TIJ MAEC), or Poland (‘tłumacz przysięgły’) do. The UK relies on UKVI Immigration Rules Para 39B, which sets four minimum requirements for any translation submitted to the Home Office:
- Confirmation the translation is an accurate translation of the original document.
- The date of the translation.
- The translator’s full name and signature.
- The translator’s contact details.
No notary. No apostille. No sworn stamp. UKVI, the Home Office, universities, NHS Trusts, and UK courts accept a certified translation that carries these four elements. Our £39.99/page rate reflects a translation produced by a qualified translator, checked by a second reviewer, and issued with a signed Statement of Accuracy that meets Para 39B in full.
What Determines the Price
Five variables set the price of a certified translation. Four are published on this page. The fifth (turnaround) is included in the £39.99/page rate for standard turnaround windows.
- Page count. 250 source words or one A4 side per page, whichever gives the lower count. A UK birth certificate is one page. A dense 300-word court page is still one page. The second page only starts at 501 words.
- Handwriting. Handwritten pages take longer to transcribe accurately and add £5/page. This includes older Polish, Ukrainian, and Romanian civil-registry certificates where records were filled by hand.
- Delivery format. Digital PDF certification included. A physical stamped hard copy posted to a UK address adds £10 flat for the whole order, not per document.
- Legalisation chain. Translation only, or translation plus notarisation, or translation plus apostille — depends on the receiving authority. Notarisation and apostille are quoted at cost, not added by us to the translation price.
- Turnaround. 24 hours for 1 to 3 pages, 36 hours for 4 to 6 pages, 48 hours for 7 to 10 pages, all at the £39.99/page rate. Documents over 10 pages are quoted individually with an agreed timeline.

Certified PDF by email within 24 to 48 hours for standard orders. Hard copy posted by Royal Mail Tracked 24 the same day when ordered. Notarisation or apostille, where ordered, follows the notary or FCDO Legalisation Office timeline.
Honest Price Comparison
The UK certified translation market runs from about £20/page at the low end (usually a freelance translator without a second review) to £70+/page at the high end (large corporate agencies with fixed overheads). Our £39.99/page sits in the middle of that band, with a review pass on every document and an explicit UKVI-compliant certification format.
- ‘From £15/page’ pricing. Read the terms. There is usually a minimum order fee (often £30 to £50), a certification surcharge, or a delivery fee that pushes the actual total well above the advertised rate. Ours is £39.99/page, full stop.
- Per-document quotes without a page count. ‘£85 for a marriage certificate’ is fine if your certificate is one page. If it is a two-side long-form, the second page will be silently added. We always show the page count on the quote.
- Automatic notarisation surcharges. UKVI does not require notarisation. If a provider adds a £30 to £60 notary fee by default when you only need a UKVI-facing translation, ask why.
- ‘Same-day’ promises. Same-day is realistic for short documents (1 to 3 pages, submitted before mid-afternoon). On a 15-page evidence bundle, same-day is a marketing claim, not an operational reality.

Why per page, not per document?
UK documents vary in size from a one-side birth certificate to a 15-page decree absolute file. Per-page pricing means a single certificate costs £39.99 and a five-page court order costs £199.95. Per-document pricing either overcharges short jobs or undercharges long ones. Per page is what UKVI-facing agencies, ATC members, and ISO 17100 providers charge.
How is a page counted?
A page is 250 source words or one A4 side, whichever gives the lower count. A UK marriage certificate on a single A4 side is one page. A 300-word page from a Polish court judgment is still one page. The second page only starts at 501 words. The page count is shown on the quote before you pay.
What about urgent turnaround?
Standard UK turnaround is 24 hours for 1 to 3 pages, 36 hours for 4 to 6 pages, 48 hours for 7 to 10 pages. We do not run a separate ‘urgent’ premium tier — the £39.99/page rate covers same-day and next-day work within these bands. Documents over 10 pages are quoted individually. For genuinely time-critical visa deadlines (same afternoon, hearing next morning) message us on WhatsApp with the deadline attached.
Is there a minimum charge?
The minimum is one page at £39.99. No order fee, no handling fee, no notarisation surcharge. If your document is under 250 words on a single side, you pay for one page.
Do you charge extra for UKVI, spouse visa, or ILR documents?
No. The £39.99/page rate applies to every document type — birth certificates, marriage certificates, criminal record certificates, diplomas, medical records, bank statements, employment letters, and court documents. The certification format is UKVI Para 39B compliant in every case: signed Statement of Accuracy, translator name (‘Tatkowski Certified Translator’), contact details, and date.
What if the receiving authority asks for notarisation or an apostille?
UKVI does not require notarisation of certified translations — Para 39B is satisfied by the Statement of Accuracy alone. Some non-UKVI receiving bodies (universities abroad, foreign consulates, some employers overseas) do ask for notarisation or an apostille on the translation. Notarisation via a UK notary is quoted per document. Apostille is issued by the FCDO Legalisation Office at the government fee, passed through at cost. We can arrange both on your behalf.
How is B2B pricing different?
For B2B accounts (law firms, HR teams, universities, immigration advisers) we invoice on 30-day terms with round-number volume pricing negotiated per account. B2C orders are paid by card at checkout at the £39.99/page listed rate. Translation quality, turnaround, and UKVI-compliant certification are identical.
