What UKVI Requires: Immigration Rules Para 39B

The UK Home Office sets out translation requirements in Para 39B of the Immigration Rules. Every document in a language other than English or Welsh must be accompanied by a certified translation that contains all four of the following elements:

  1. Confirmation it is an accurate translation of the original document — our Statement of Accuracy certifies this explicitly.
  2. The date of the translation — dated on our certification header.
  3. The translator's full name and signature — our translators sign every certificate.
  4. The translator's contact details — full contact information included on every certified translation.

That is the whole requirement. A Para 39B submission does not need notarisation or an apostille, so we will tell you when you do not need them. Some documents require an apostille for reasons unrelated to UKVI, and we handle those separately.

For wider context, the ATC, CIOL and ITI publish joint guidance, Getting it Right: Certified Translation (2024). It describes the same four-element approach and is the clearest public reference for what UK certified translation requires.

What Your UKVI Translation Includes

A certified translation is a complete, literal translation of your original document, issued with a signed statement confirming its accuracy. It is not a summary, and it is not a notarised document. For UKVI purposes the certification is a statement by the translator, not a stamp from a court or a solicitor.

  • The full translated text, laid out to mirror the original page by page, including stamps, seals and handwritten annotations.
  • A signed Statement of Accuracy carrying all four Para 39B elements.
  • A reference number linking the translation back to the source file we worked from.

You receive a certified PDF by email, ready to upload to your application. Hard copies are posted on request for a flat GBP 10.

Why Applicants Choose Us for UKVI Work

Our team works to Para 39B every day, across 200+ languages, and the certification format does not change between language pairs. Documents are translated by a native speaker of the target language and checked by a second linguist before the Statement of Accuracy is signed.

Pricing is fixed at £39.99 per page and quoted before you commit, so the cost of a visa bundle is known in advance rather than estimated. Most single documents are delivered within 24 hours.

If UKVI raises a formatting query attributable to our work, we revise and reissue at no charge.
